Holly Jolly Blog Tour Week 1 - Meet Regina Andrews

We're at it again for another whirlwind tour talking about books, books and more books!  This week my guest is Regina Andrews.  Say hello, leave a comment and answer one of our questions yourself to be entered into our contest for a $50 Amazon gift certificate at the end of our tour.

Hi,

Thanks for stopping by Regan's blog to spend a bit of time getting to know me!  I am Regina Andrews, Inspirational Author - but that sounds kind of stuffy, don't you think? Let's try this -- everyone calls me Gina and I love happy endings, I love writing, I love romance and I love God, so naturally I write romance novels with an inspirational point of view. After all, what's life without a good dose of faith to carry us through those times when things are not exactly going the way we'd like them to be? During the day I am lucky enough to have a full-time writing job at a national jewelry company, specializing in high-end designer and Estate pieces - I'm the one writing what you read about all these one-of-a-kind treasures! In my off-time, I volunteer for the blind, work at the local children's hospital and sing my heart out in the church choir. My hubby and I are proud 'parents' of a semi-feral cat named Queenie who really is in charge of the whole house. She loves Christmas -- especially tinsel! -- and so do I, so let's get to the questions and kick off this fun and fabulous "Holly Jolly" blog tour!
Question # 1 for Gina --

What is your favorite holiday novel - and why? Movie?

No doubt my favorite holiday novel is "Winter Solstice" by Rosamunde Pilcher. It's a good, long, luxurious read that centers on five lost souls whose lives converge right before the holidays and they end up spending a life-changing Christmas holiday together. You know how when you find a good book and you just can't bear to have it end? That's how this one is...I'm milking my way slowly towards the conclusion. Curl up with this and a steaming cup of tea and you'll experience the real meaning of the season.

Now for a movie, I don't mean to be trite, but oh! How could there be a more moving or masterful holiday movie than "It's a Wonderful Life?"

My second question for Regina is:

Let us know your favorite holiday tradition that you cherish in your home. And what holiday tradition do you find fascinating, even though you might not do it at your house? (That might be another culture.)

Setting up our crèche is a family tradition that we've enjoyed for years. We did it with my parents at the house, and since they've been gone, everyone comes over to my house and we make an event out of it. We sing and snack and sip, and arrange the big, (3' x 5') beautiful Italian wooden manger with the hand-painted figurines on a midnight blue blanket in the bay window, then add twinkling white lights along the top. It's a magical family time together.
Also, one tradition I love is the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve, from Italy. It is so steeped in religious meaning, as well as drawing the family together. A beautiful time!
Well thank you for having me, Regan. Happy Holidays, everyone!

  2. Love Actually is my favorite holiday movie. My favorite novel is Twas the Night by Sandra Hill, Kate Holmes and Trish Jensen. It is about three different couples and each author writes a couple but they all come together on one bus and the melding of each author's story is seamless. Of course the holidays to me always seem depressing and so often people end up disappointed and alone so it is the one time of year I really enjoy sappy romances. Chocolate and playing dreidels is my favorite activity. and taking a drive to look at all the houses that have put lights up.

  5. Hi, my name is Samantha. I have a few holiday movies that I love and try to watch them each year around this time or any time of the year if I can. They are: Polar express, Gremlins, and Home alone. The Polar Express is my all time favorite because watching it allows to be a kid again and it is a heartfelt movie. The other two just make me laugh.

  6. My favorite holiday movie is Christmas vacation. My kids and I watched it when they were young so it brings back great memories for me. They are both married now but they still love it.

  7. As for older Christas movies, I love the original Miracle on 34th Street. For more recent movie - I loved A Christmas Heart on Hallmark and Saturday's A Bride for Christmas. We have an electric menorah since we have three cats and even when I have had real candles, I have been afraid one of them would get too close. I use rblerner@ptd.net as main email.

  8. Hello Gina,
I really enjoyed reading your interview!

As for my Christmas traditions, after Serge,(my husband) and I have decorated the tree a few days before Christmas, I put a simple small empty basket at the base ot that tree. Then on Christmas morning, I put a small doll representing Jesus in the small basket. It is a simple tradition, but very meaningful to me.

As for one of my favorite Christmas novel,I have to say that I really enjoyed "Bring Me Home for Christmas" by Robyn Carr. I have to admit I haven't read a lot of Christmas novels so far, but I can tell you for sure that "Winter Solstice" by Rosamunde Pilcher will be put on my TBR pile. I love getting recommendations, and the way you described it makes me want to read it, and with a cup of tea too! :)

Favorite Christmas movie for me would have to be: "White Christmas.

Please I want to apologize in advance for any mistake in my English. As much as it is easy for me to read in English, when it comes to writing, I sometimes struggle. (I am a french canadian). Reading is easier than writing for me tonight. (Ok,not only tonight lol).:)
Thank you for reading me, an a joyful&Happy Holidays to you and your close ones.
    Judith

  9. I adore It's a Wonderful Life. Such a timeless story. Each of our lives truly do impact so many others.

I have a creche I made that we set out each year. It is felt three dimensional characters and took me an eternity to sew as I am not a seamstress. Made one for my mom too and now that she has passed on, I have both sets. Maybe will pass one down...

  10. My favorite holiday book is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, which is also a terrific movie. We watch the original movie during the holidays each year. That's a tradition in our family. For a movie I also love Holiday Inn, the story where service men do a wonderful deed for their former general who is about to lose his inn. The music is delightful and so is the scenery. Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney star in the movie and all are outstanding performers.

  11. So nice to meet you, Gina! Your genre sounds interesting. I have seen such novels at Hastings and I must admit I am tempted to try one out. I know I enjoy watching the Hallmark Channel as it has those types of movies. I enjoy visiting here today and good luck with the rest of the blog hop!

  15. HI Regina,
I love Rosamonde Pilcher and have read a ton of her books, including "The Shell Seekers" and "Coming Home", but somehow I've missed "Winter Soltice". I'll definitely look that one up.

My favorite Christmas movie right now is "Love Actually", though I do enjoy watching "It's a Wonderful Life" every Christmas.

    All the best this Christmas!
    Jana
